50 Life Lessons for Pianists
In celebration of my 50th birthday at the end of September, I have compiled a list of 50 life lessons for musicians (specifically for pianists). You can also listen to this on the latest episode of Coffee with Christina. Before we begin, I will admit that some of these are cheesy, and I apologize in advance. 😊 Life is too short to be serious all the time, though, so we’ll embrace the cheesiness and just go with it!
Are y’all ready? Here we go!
1. Embrace the journey – Mastery is a lifelong process.
2. Practice patience – Progress comes slowly, but it builds steadily.
3. Prioritize consistency – 15 minutes daily is so much better than 3 hours once a week!
4. Listen deeply – The piano speaks when you pay attention to its nuances.
5. Feel the keys – Technique isn’t just physical. It’s also emotional.
6. Celebrate the small wins! Each new piece or scale mastered is a victory!
7. Music tells stories – Learn to narrate with your fingers.
8. Practice mindfully. Quality over quantity.
9. Rest is essential – Breaks enhance creativity and growth.
10. Trust your intuition. Musical expression comes from within.

12. Respect silence. There is as much power in the rests as there are in the notes.
